In sixty years of existence, the Movement against Racism, Anti-Semitism and Xenophobia has gained a say on what goes on in detention centers, today it can bring, ask an expert as regards matters of racism and exclusion, invite themselves in committees and spheres of consultations. MRAX garnered sympathy capital and symbolic power out of the ordinary. We can not allow ourselves to let go of this wonderful tool to fight his loss!

Today the Board of MRAX excludes members of MRAX of substantive debate on MRAX. A shame!

Despite repeated requests from members of MRAX and its employees, the Board finds it unnecessary to have an open debate before the General Assembly on the latest pronouncements undemocratic movement, nor it finds it necessary to discuss its neutrality lost (mainly because of participation in activities of MRAX propaganda for the benefit of the Moroccan authorities) and the mismanagement of working relationships with staff.

Instead, the Council proposes to organize the April 21, a meeting reserved for members, which would therefore exclude the majority of contributors.

We, members and supporters MRAX can not accept that the fundamental debates on the functioning of the organization are carried out democratic bodies under the Regulations.

We believe that legitimate and indispensable members can participate in a focus on the guiding principles of MRAX, which in the eyes of some of the more important anti-racist movement, have too often been undermined his last month by its management and its Board of Directors.

The Movement against Racism, Xenophobia and Antisemitism is a reference historical importance in the fight waged against racism in Belgium.

The force of the extreme right in this country certifies that this fight is far from won. Force us also note the difficulty of making a calm debate and looking at issues of racism in a cacophony where the anathema and the trial of intent to prevent any possibility of deep reflection. As to the condition of our fellow newcomers, like that of the Saharan people or Roma origin, to name only two populations, they do, despite extremely disturbing signals, subject to a deafening silence.

More Overall, the new challenges posed by globalization, which is also available in the temptations of isolationism and establishment of fortresses dividing humanity between rich and poor are vectors of contagion virulent racism and xenophobia.

In this melee against fear or hatred of the Other, every step back is a step too far. Today is the loss of legitimacy and credibility of an important symbol of the struggle against racism and the disintegration of an association more than ever necessary that we want to prevent.

Indeed, the fight against racism, antisemitism and xenophobia implies an association and its activists have values and strong principles and unambiguous, as it requires clear and consistent positions. This is what gives credibility. But today, MRAX can no longer rely on a strong and unambiguous. Just as he brooks no criticism, paralyzed by fear to dent the image "idealized and frozen" by the association while MRAX became a place of sterile polemics and disagreements between recurrent anti-racist activists.

These departures have disastrous effects on the image of MRAX and serious impact on the continuity and effectiveness of its action.

We therefore call on activists, members and supporters of MRAX to realize and react to this lack of credibility and significant degradation of the image of the association and the serious harm done to us in our common struggle.

We appeal finally to the Board of Directors MRAX to assume his responsibilities and he draws conclusions that a substantial part of the antiracist movement the challenge by presenting an honorable and constructive resignation.

This Wednesday, April 12, 2006.

For several years, Mrax workers regularly express their unease about the management of staff. So far, the problems had been resolved internally. But since the inauguration of the new board, these difficulties have taken other proportions.

This Wednesday, April 12, 2006, employees of the Movement against Racism, Xenophobia and Antisemitism, except direction, begin a third day strike to protest against the unfair dismissal of their colleague Luc Malghem and denouncing abuses and an accumulation of dysfunctions such as to endanger the very future of the association. We denounce

include:

- a lack of transparency in decision-making (staff learn sometimes pronouncements in the press),

- we are not aware of long-term vision of the projects carried by MRAX and political movement,

- a gradual disappearance of real debate,

- a systematic diversion of several key provisions of the Rules of Procedure voted in October 2006 and several legal provisions (eg staff should be consulted before stance),

- A lack of ethics both internally and in our relationships with external partners.

past three months, we regularly conduct industrial action. We do not want the media attention not to harm the success of the Action Week against Racism. We figured to these actions would be symbolic enough to cause a sense of responsibility of the board: in forty years of existence, MRAX had never experienced any strike!

Today, despite the multiplication of actions, demonstrations in support of a growing number of members and supporters, our engagement has resulted in only one or the other measure of pure facade [1] and repressive reactions by the president and management: loss of credibility, attempted guilt, threats of dismissal group for serious misconduct and disciplinary sanctions disproportionate finally (warning before dismissal) and illegal, addressed to all employees involved in industrial action.

Before this denial of union rights, and the refusal of the board to assume its responsibilities, we were forced to continue and publicize our efforts. The next action will take the form of a new day strike held this Wednesday, April 12. We urge journalists wanting to better understand our position to meet us at the premises of MRAX Wednesday between 10h and 17h.

Our criticism should be located as part of a broader trend. For many months we are facing a bureaucratization of our work to reduce our role to that of a performer, at best, a cabinet member. We also denounce the primacy given to the pervasiveness media at the expense of analysis and reflection, in a communication breakdown with the total work of the association. We can not condone these abuses: MRAX must remain more than ever a militant movement.

We also reiterate our support for the steps and actions initiated by our colleague Luc Malghem. His dismissal was the result of practices that we condemn in our turn now. These practices did not end with his departure, however. We demand his reinstatement, as we supported his complaints of harassment.
